Works-For-Me-Wednesday-- Webkinz

The Webkinz craze has hit our house this Christmas. Want to know how bad?

I've got it too. It's an illness.

I stayed up past midnight New Year's Eve, not because I wanted to see the new year in but rather because I got carried away playing games on http://www.webkinz.com/ and lost track of time. I didn't even know it was midnight until I heard some firecrackers going off nearby.

For those of you new to the WKC (WebKinz Craze), I'll elaborate. Ganz makes many stuffed animals that come with special codes that allow you to adopt the stuffed animal and then create a world for that pet online. You take care of it, decorate it's room, take it to the doctor, get a job and a myriad of other activities that I have yet to do-- all online. You finance your operation by playing games, getting a job, or answering questions for KinzCash. You can only play on the site if you have a code from purchasing an animal. For a more detailed look, click HERE and take a tour.

I had NO idea what a big deal Webkinz were. Ticklebug and Doodlebug had them on their Cmas list. I thought they were just overpriced stuffed animals. I still think that.

Want to see my new toy?

Meet Coconut. I got him on Clearance at Target for $9.08. I spent my Cmas money on him. He's not the cutest thing but now I have my own login and can win my own KinzCash!

The regular WK run anywhere from $10 to $16.50 at retail stores. I have yet to figure out what price the MSRP is. Anyone know?

TB and DB play with the stuffed animals in the house like crazy. They have been giving them rides on their scooters, having playdates, and they even have beds made for them. I think I'll buy some ribbon and velcro and make them collars. Collars for the WK, not the children. Although...

Anyway, my tip for this week... is... buy your own Webkinz.

It will save you some trouble trying to remember which child's account you last played on so you can be fair.

I have an extra Pug who needs a good home. Let me know if he can come live at your house...

Oh, I think Coconut is the cutest thing! Being on clearance makes him even cuter. ;)

Oh the Pug would be right at home at our house! We love WK and I never bought my own so I have a tally sheet of who I played on last. I love the Lab game and there version of frogger. Glad to hear someone else loves them too!

I feel your pain. I've spent many hours "winning" my kids kinzcash. But, if I got my own then I would have to openly admit my addiction. We'll keep it between us right now :o)

My girls got the WK for Christmas too-their first ones, even though they are 9 and 11. I haven't tried playing any of the games yet. I already feel like I spend too much time on the computer and that would just add to it if I started and couldn't stop!

You crack me up!!

Yeah, we've got the webkinz here too. I haven't actually done it myself, though. I'm too busy playing the wii!

ne second hand, it didn't have the code with it, unless it is one of the numbers on the sewn in tag, anyone know? Help!

Marylu, as far I know, no tag, no nothing. This site might help you more too. That stinks!

Mamabug, my suggestion for those crayons, etc is either ziploc bags or a plastic drawer system with big, clear labels.

Hope that helps!

P.S> never heard of webkinz before (i'm in south africa)

That is too funny. I can see how you would get in to it too. My daughter just got two for her birthday and she's only five so it makes it kind of tricky for her to play on her own since she can't read yet. Sometimes I really get in to it with her but I have yet to play when she's not around!

We're into Webkinz around here too - my son got one for Christmas. Unfortunately a couple of days ago, we had an incident that called for SERIOUS discipline, so his webkinz computer activity was restricted until next week. Guess who is "taking care of Fluffy" in the meantime? I'm not sure it was the best idea I had as a parent - 50 times a day I hear, "did you feed Fluffy?" "I don't want Fluffy to die!" etc., etc.! Oh well, I'm better at the games than he is, so he's racking up some serious kinzcash!

My kids love their webkinz. They now have 4 or 5 each - each one gets a room added to the house the first one built. Whoever came up with that idea is GENIUS.

MSRP = manufacturer's standard retail price

We don't have any of the Webkins...my kids haven't discovered them, thankfully.

Char,

So far I have taken minimal care of Coconut and he is very healthy and happy. I kinda wonder if as long as you log out and put the WK to sleep in a bed you are good to go. And Fluffy won't die. She will just get sick and get an icepack on her head.

Too funny...my hubby and I are constantly playing with our kids' WK accounts. I'm the Zingo Pop (is that what it's called?) Queen and he's addicted to Goober's Lab. Hadn't thought of buying my own...

My little seven-year-old son has three Webkinz, a reindeer, a koala and a raccoon. He is rabid for them, carries them everywhere, fights for computer time to feed and care for them, and for a while, the pleading for a real puppy has subsided!
